- Old Main is the most notable landmark on the campus of UNC Pembroke. Constructed in 1923, destroyed by fire in 1973, and restored in 1979, Old Main represents a symbol of resiliency and community. For many, the building represents the persistence of an American Indian community who fought for access to a formal education. In 500 words, describe why you are choosing to pursue your education at UNC Pembroke. How do you plan to get/stay connected to your community and culture as a student?
