HSRC Scholarships:
HSRC continually works to develop tomorrow’s transportation safety professionals by awarding scholarships and research assistantships to deserving students and by integrating students into our research work. Currently, we award two scholarships annually: the Megan Cornog Memorial Highway Safety Scholarship and the HSRC Diversity Scholarship.

The Megan Cornog Memorial Highway Safety Scholarship
The Megan Cornog Memorial Highway Safety Scholarship is an annual $1,500 scholarship awarded to a student with an interest in transportation who is enrolled full-time in a graduate program, working toward a master’s degree, at any of the University of North Carolina system campuses.

Named in memory of HSRC staff member Megan Cornog, the purpose of the scholarship is to foster the education and professional development of graduate students with an interest in transportation related areas, including, but not limited to, engineering, driver behavior, city and regional planning, public health, and environmental issues.

A call for applications is issued each spring, and candidates for the scholarship are evaluated on a 500-1,000 word essay, as well as academic performance, career goals, extracurricular and professional activities, and work experience.

We are now accepting applications for the Megan Cornog Memorial Highway Safety Scholarship. Apply by June 15, 2022.

The HSRC Diversity Scholarship
The HSRC Diversity Scholarship is an annual $5,000 scholarship designed to support the education of NC undergraduate students who are interested in exploring transportation-related areas of study. The goal of the HSRC Diversity Scholarship is to encourage Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in transportation safety.

A call for applications will be issued each spring, and candidates will be evaluated on essay responses, as well as community involvement, leadership, academic performance, and career goals.

We are now accepting applications for the HSRC Diversity Scholarship. Apply by June 15, 2022.
